Twelve things · updated every Tuesday

Everything we keep, and how much of it is left.

No seasons, no drops, no waiting list. When a line goes it goes, and the date it comes back sits on the card where the price would be.

If you only buy one thing

The Octavo No. 4

176 pages of 90 gsm Dutch wove, sewn in eight-page sections so it lies flat on the first page and the last. Three rulings, one price, and a replacement block when you fill it. It is the book two thirds of this shop's customers come back for.

It comes in three rulings and three cloths, with the ribbon sewn in before the endpapers go on, and when you have filled it we will take the block out and rebind it for €55 rather than sell you another one.

Before you order

What does delivery cost?

€4,95 in the Netherlands, €9,50 across the European Union, free over €75. Orders before 14.00 on a working day leave the same afternoon; everything is tracked and nothing needs a signature.

Can I send something back?

Thirty days from the day it arrives, written in or not. We refund the item and the outward postage. Opened ink is the single exception and the bottles say so on the label we print here.

What does “back 14 April” actually mean?

It is the date the mill has given us for the next making, plus four days for the ruling. If it slips we change the date rather than quietly leaving it. Write to the counter and we will put your name against the first pallet.

Do you rebind a book I have filled?

Yes. A full rebind in cloth over boards is €55 and takes about three weeks. Bring it to the counter or post it; we photograph the book before we take it apart and send you the picture.

Is the ink safe in a vintage pen?

Nine of the eleven colours are plain dye inks at neutral pH and go in anything. The two iron gall colours, Vischpoort and Beekstraat, should not sit in a celluloid barrel for weeks; flush them every fortnight and they are fine.

Not sure which paper?

Ask at the counter. That is what the counter is for.

Sheets of white paper with torn deckle edges, layered one on another

Say which pen, which ink and roughly how fast you write, and somebody who has filled thirty pages of the stock in question will answer. If a line of it needs photographing while it dries, we photograph it.

In the shop the whole sample book is cut to full-page sheets with a jar of pens beside it. Nobody will hover and nobody minds how many sheets you spoil.

Everything on this page is priced in euros with 21% BTW already in it, posted the same afternoon on orders before 14.00, and returnable for thirty days whether or not you have written in it.
